From the era when TV shows were filmed but edited on tape as a cost-saving move. That’s why it doesn’t look nice and crisp like the shows actually edited on film.

Lisa Hartman. I forgot about her. This was in 1988. Los Angeles. Wow. I'll bet. She was big time in the movies. Many athletes looked to her. They all wanted to move to Los Angeles. Wow. This being from where we're from. Wow. I'm not sure if the athletes ever got there. You need money to make it out. Wow. Lisa Hartman.

They build these towers bigger and bigger relying on sprinklers and they enouth can not stop a raging inferno. We need ways to make it easier faster and safer for the fire fighters to reach the fires no matter what floors there on. We must research with hover technology to actually let fire appliances hover to the fires and fight then at a safe distance from outside the tower.

I worked in two major hospitals during my 45 years in medical care, and whether it's true of all hospitals, I don't know, but those two had all the elevators programmed to go down to the ground floor immediately when the fire alarms sounded. No matter if they were headed up, they reversed and went to the ground floor, and anyone on them had to get off. Only the fire department had keys to operate them from that point on so they could make sure no one used them. That particular elevator safety feature was in place in the early 1970s, and I know the three tallest buildings in my city also had that same system in place, including the largest bank in the city. Now all of the multiple story buildings have them, the building and fire codes in my city being very strict in that regard (as well as having all the right firefighting features in them). We also had fire drills at least twice a year, usually three times a year, in each hospital. The one rule of evacuation is "Move laterally, then vertically." That is, get over to a safer part of the facility (obviously moving patients to that side first), closing all the fire doors behind us, and then, when Incident Command said to do so, move the patients downward in the safe elevators, always with two firefighters inside it, operating the lift, and making sure we got out of the building safely. Glad I no longer work (retired), but was also glad to practice all of that every year.

And then when they started actually attacking the fire on the 12th for lure fully engaging with the fire on the 12th floor that's another reason this movie never made it babe first of all you're not going to stick your arm and f****** whole I mean that's great Hollywood badassness but in real life that's how you get mayday mayday firefighter down broadcast all over the radio and everybody's got to stop what they're doing to pull that one dumb ass out of the f****** situation 2nd off when they open up the door like that they would have been an extreme flashover from oxygen feeding the fire which therefore means every one of the guys in the stairwell would have just got cooked

I do remember watching this on news in Japan whenthis happened ! There are many things in this movie that people should've known, but they didn't !! Mind boggling indeed ! I am Japanese & we learn those from our kindergarten to high schools, every year through fire drills & earthquake drills ! So we automatically act accordingly in those situation ! I thought Americans do that ,too here ,I live in the States ,not as much as we do ,but they do ,right !? Never use elevators in case of fires ,or earthquake it even says on the elevators !! And we're supposed to lower our heights / bodies & crawl as the gas goes up ! If we're on the stairwells, we take our breaths in between the steps !!! And damp our bodies ,or wet jackets or towels just like we see it in movies ,but not in this one !! Lol. In this movie, they stopped water ,but every office has large water bottles for drinking & ice cubes to melt .And if trapped in a room ,we should put a wet towel under the door to let the smoke / toxic gas to be absorbed in the towel & stop from letting it in !!! Less talk ,less wasting energy for our lungs !!! So keep calm ! A very interesting thing during this movie was the co worker of the main character was smart to come up w/ the idea to get oxygen from the fridge ! And the writer did an interesting effect ,the male coworker trapped w/ her was an ARIES !!! LOL.πŸ‘And it's a fire sign ,as well as they're the leaders & come up w/ smart ideas & actions impulsively, so that was a good effect indeed !!πŸ’œπŸ₯πŸŽ΅πŸ‰πŸŽ€πŸŽΆπŸ’•πŸ’ž

13:24; in this scene the carpeting has an orange glow on the 37th. floor from the main office, and it was fire because the smoke detector sound the alarm, and it will become a towering inferno in the entire office building, but this movie is like fire safety with a little remembrance to 9/11 in New York in 2001.

At the time, most LA skyscrapers had neither alarm systems nor sprinklers, as they were more concerned with seismic issues for obvious reasons. Lessons were definitely learned after this. All tall buildings in Greater LA were refitted with alarm and sprinkler systems, and all new structures are required to have them.

    • Spark _

I KNOW !!! I was wondering why nobody had even slight ideas of how to deal with the fire !!! They should crawl as the most fire victims die from smoke inhalation & the gas goes up ! So ,we need to lower ourselves & breath between the steps if we are going on the stairwell ! They were trapped inside ,but basically the same thing ! And wet a bath towels, or sheets anything & put 'em under the doors to shiel the air from smokes ,so that smoke & toxic gas will be absorbed in the damp towles ! In this movie ,they stopped water ...,but I am sure they have large water bottles for drinking ,as well as ice cubes to melt ! So that they can drink water & wet their hair & clothes !! Also ,less talking ,less wasting energy for them to keep lung's condition better ! Cracking windows ,not sure if it was a good idea as the more oxygen, the more fire ! The two workers ( main character plaid by Lisa Hartman & her co-worker ) tried breaking the windows by hitting the center & they were shatterproof, obviously for prevention of suicide & safety reasons ! They should had hit the corners instead !! πŸ’œπŸ₯πŸ‰πŸŽ€πŸ’ž

Really good movie and it's a reminder of the amazing bravery of firefighters. What disgusts me though is what they earn, which on average is $55,0000 per year compared to the insane amount earned by profession sports people, like a basketball player with one year's experience is $1,445,697. Risking your life to save others vs putting a ball in a net? Surely these salaries are the wrong way around.

I was still in college and interviewing for a job and it brought me to Downtown LA maybe a week or two later and I had kind of forgot about it but actually got a chance to see the damage of the building. Shortly after I was working in several different high rise buildings in LA. The highest I recall was the 27th FL in around a 50 FL building. We did have fire drills but not often. All the buildings I worked in had a sprinkler system.

I know recognize the elevator bank also...cannot imagine anybody paying to see this as everybody mostly working in high rises...do remember many offices were installing sprinkler systems sometime around then...many offices in my build did not have any in my building did not...@ 53.26 office guy tried throwing computer & those huge old hard drives to break a window but I remember that glass in most 'newer' buildings was well over an inch and a half thick & shatter proof...great...also when we had to have a new lighting panel tube fixed on the ceiling I saw how crappy the ceiling was... like bulletin board just cheap panels resting on grid irons & open to the next under floor...excellent plumbing... but few sprinklers ... Old old buildings towards downtown Los Angeles had nothing...amazing...people were cheap rich & cheap landlords... the most amount of advertising agencies were in my building & would think their management might have considered that necessity & liability...the computers are funny...so...no systems were truly completed while I worked there & then Crash of '91 ...most publications went under & many As Agencies "Downsized" the new buzz word...Downsize...from then on paralytic greed that just continues...in those days you knew whom owned what & Presidents of Agencies, Tv Radio Stations were American & accessible...now we rented the country out to China you know the rest ...many of my friends in publications lost their jobs but freelanced & survived...the next hit was 2000 DotCom Bubble, then 2001 Disaster Year, but the next huge slam was 2008...which had been bubbling away since probably the '80's...or mid '70's real estate over heated & completely unaffordable homes in Los Angeles & surrounding area...crashed in '91... regained momentum & kept going long past salaries extraordinary of Silicon Valley til 2008 slump but now we are in it again with undetermined bleeding gash from Covid Shutdown...do not trust anything Commie China does... Can you imagine no sprinklers in a high rise...they did have smoke detectors but employees were still allowed to smoke...it is not ancient history...companies were cheap & this was '80's with huge expense accounts billed to clients lunches at least $ 100 + for 2....Yuppies....Excess of everything but no sprinkler systems in most of my building very appearedly nice building....Cheap....

in the first 20 seconds you can see smoke from where the fire had already started.

Lots of 80's actors. Even Michael Beach from Third Watch.
